PERFORMANCE PIECES
Candidates are to choose 3 performance pieces to play in their exams. Up to 2 pieces can be free choice in the Graded Exams.
TECHNICAL EXERCISES
Tests candidates on the fundamental skills to develop mastery of technique, and to help them grow into better, well-rounded players and musicians.
SIGHT READING/IMPROVISATION (GRADES DEBUT–5 ONLY)
Candidates are allowed to choose to demonstrate their skill in either Sight Reading, or Improvisation.
QUICK STUDY PIECE (GRADES 6-8 ONLY)
Replaces the Sight Reading and Improvisation tests from the lower grades.
EAR TESTS (GRADES DEBUT-8)
Tests candidates’ aural skills through playback recall and recognition of melodic patterns, chords and harmonies, grooves, and rhythms
GENERAL MUSICIANSHIP QUESTIONS
At the end of an exam, candidates are asked 5 questions to test their knowledge of technique, their instrument, music theory and musical styles
