Note:

  • Performing with backing track, playing using different Piano sound (e.g.: Jazz Piano, Electric Piano, Harpsichord) or any accompaniment music is permittable.
  • Play and sing at the same time is permittable.
  • Finalists can play the same piece or a different piece from the Qualifying round.

  1. Musicality: 25%

  2. Technique: 25%

  3. Performance (style, expression and mood): 25%

  4. Interpretation & Presentation: 25%

Playing from memory is highly encouraged.

Performing duration

  • Performance duration is counted from the first note of the piece to the last note of the piece.
  • It includes pauses between the pieces.
  • A performance that runs overtime may be penalised or disqualified

  • TOP WINNERS from Intermediate Category and Open Category will advance to the International Grand Finals in Guangzhou on 19 November 2022.
  • Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation . Those who enter by video submission will receive an E-certificate.
  • All Prize winners will receive a Trophy and certificate.

VIDEO SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  1. Please submit only one video link after you’ve uploaded that includes all your items.
  2. Only video recordings, not audio recordings, are accepted.
  3. Capture the performance as a single take, you must not stop or pause in between the recording.
  4. You must not use video editing software for your competition video.
  5. Your face with both your hands must be visible in the video, so we can identify the participant taking part for the competition.
  6. Record your video with a resolution of at least 720p making sure of good audio quality. Inadequate audio & /or video quality may cause an entry to be disqualified, or require resubmission.
  7. Check the video recording carefully before submission, making sure the picture and sound are of a reasonable quality and that the full recording has been captured.
  8. Avoid the lighting on your back or into the camera lens. Video must be reasonably lit so as to clearly see the participant.
  9. To prevent shaking of your video recording, you may stabilize your camera with a tripod stand.
  10. If you are playing with backing track, make sure the backing track is clearly recorded into the video.

VIDEO SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

  1. Video submission will only be allowed with a complete online registration and full registration fee payment.
  2. Record your Competition Video and upload your video to a permanent video sharing service, such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion. Temporary file sharing (such as WeTransfer) is not recommended.
  3. Allow the access to view your video link submitted. In the security setting, please “Allow anyone with the link to view the video.”

GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. Participants are required to be neatly and appropriately dressed for all sessions of the competition.
  2. Registration fee must be paid in full during registration.
  3. Registration fees are not refundable.
  4. Participants must not be music teachers, professional musicians or derive their principal source of income from public performance.
  5. The organizer reserves the right to cancel any competition categories due to any unforeseen circumstances.
  6. In the event of cancellation by the organizer, the registration fees will be fully refunded.
  7. By joining the competition, participants agree for their materials to be used for future publicity.
  8. Participants will be assessed on: Musicality 25%, Technique, 25%, Performance (Style Expression & Mood) 25%, Interpretation & Presentation 25%
  9. All participants are responsible for all soundtracks and music copyright issue. The organising committee is not responsible for copyright disputes (if any). The participant shall be liable for any loss and damage caused to the organising committee in the event of any dispute.
  10. All Finalists (applicable for Singapore Finalist) are to book a slot for their Final Video recording at Bechstein Music World using the Official Competition Piano – Pearl River Digital Piano GP-1100.  The details of booking will be announced via email to all Finalists.
  11. On the day of the competition (FINAL), participants may be required to verify their identity and age with any photo ID that has their date of birth (NRIC, passport,etc).
  12. In case of any dispute, the decision of the organising committee is final.

Evelyn Zaneta

Ms Evelyn Zaneta graduated from University of Queensland, Australia, in Master of Music and Pelita Harapan University (Indonesia) in Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Music Education. 

She also wrote the background music for Screech Theatre by CPL (Choice, Passion, Life; previously Celebral Palsy League) performances in Geebung and Southbank, Queensland, Australia.

Ms Evelyn had been actively involved in church music as a Music Director for 13 years (2002-2015) in which her tasks include arranging the music for weekly service and also with The White Lily Kids Choir as both teacher and accompanist for 8 years in which her tasks include accompanying every lesson and composing a jingle. She also performed as a soloist in several events with orchestra. 

In 2018, she was invited to be the judge of the Singapore Asia Youth Piano Competition. Currently, a full-time music teacher teaching piano in Singapore.

 

Chin Ying Soong Winson

Mr Chin Ying Soong Winson holds an Advanced Performance Study Certificate in Music from Birmingham Conservatoire, UK, FTCL Diploma in Piano, LTCL Diploma in Piano, and LRSM Diploma in Piano (Distinction).

A teacher to many young and aspiring musicians, Winson Chin has over 25 years of teaching experience. He taught piano students, undergraduates from tertiary institution and music colleges in Malaysia and Singapore such as University Malaya (UM), University Institute Technology Mara (UiTM), Segi College (PJ), Malaya Institute of Art (MIA), and music teachers completing their diploma certificates.

In his earlier years, he participated and won in several piano competitions, such as the Yamaha Malaysia Grand Prix 1990, Mozart Competition in Penang 1991, and during his time in Birmingham Conservatoire. He also won awards for best accompanist for vocal and violin competitions. He now works in Singapore as full-time teaching, piano accompaniment and performing.

 

Yullis Gwei U

Yullis Gwei U is the teacher in charge of Rosabel Music Studio in Singapore since 2003.

She gained a dual degree at Boston University, where she was under the instruction of pianist Hong Guan Chen & Benjamin Pssternack.  She was also taught by Phyllis Curtin and Steve Benjamin in piano pedagogy and music organisation.  Her professional training was based on a wide spectrum of musical activities that include piano recitals of mainstream composer’s work from Mozart, Debussy, Haydn and Bach.  In addition, Yullis also has experiences working with others musicians in choral ensemble and conducting.

As an instrument teacher of the piano, Yullis has carried out research into the history, repertoire, performing and teaching practices of the instrument and present programmes regularly in her yearly students’ recitals.  Her engagement with local music schools includes adjudicating works of piano students and serving as mentors to teachers.  Her music career has seen her students embracing the stage of Victoria Concert Hall and recitals saloons in town.

In 2019, world renowned French composer Sylvain Guinet attended a Singapore recital presented by Gwei U and her students at Bechstein Hall.  In honour of the composer, 33 pieces of Guinet’s advanced piano pieces were presented and shared with the world online.

Gwei U manages Rosabel Music Studio services in the development of music courses and activities to be offered to the public.

 

Brigette Yap

Brigette embarked on her music journey at the age of four. The training she had received established the foundation for her music profession as an accomplished pianist and educator. She is an Associate in Musical Theory, Criticism and Literature, and Fellow in Solo Piano Performance of Trinity College of Music London and was awarded the Certificate of Teaching as well as Diploma in Piano Teaching (Distinction) by the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music. 

A dedicated and passionate teacher, Brigette’s music career began when she was an undergraduate at the National University of Singapore. Over the past 2 decades, she has nurtured outstanding students and diploma graduates, several of whom were top prize winners at various piano competitions including Kevin Kern Piano Competition and Singapore Asia Youth Piano Competitions. 

With the intent to instill value in music education, she recognized the need to be cognizant of students’ cognitive, social, and emotional development in addition to disseminating musical knowledge. Realizing this necessity led her to pursue further study to sharpen this wisdom. She holds a Master of Education degree in Developmental Psychology from Nanyang Technological University. 

Her professional experiences include performing opportunities where she performed as soloist, accompanied instrumentalists and vocalists as well as played in ensembles and bands. She took on music curriculum development, examining and mentoring roles and also served as music and arts director for various concerts. She, too, was invited to adjudicate for Richard Clayderman Prodigy Audition and other music talent competitions.

Inspired by the work of her contemporaries, Brigette strives to actualize the potentials and foster the love for music in aspiring musicians such that they lead enriching lives and are assets to our society.

Ketherine Lim

Ketherine Lim was born and raised in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, where she started her piano lesson at the age of four. A year later, she was accepted in Sumatra Conservatoire of Music doing her pre-conservatory music studies, where she was actively performed in various events and concerts. Her highly scored performances in Solfege and piano classes gained her a number of prizes and awards.

In 1998, she moved to Singapore to complete her high school studies for four years at Canadian Internation School, Singapore. She received a full scholarship from University of Pelita Harapan, Conservatory of Music, Jakarta, Indonesia, where she obtained her Bachelor degree in Music Performance (Piano), under the guidance of Indonesian and Internationally legendary pianists, artists and pedagogues: Wanni Bongawan, Fabiola Chianiago, Marta Podolska (Poland), Iswargia R. Sudarno, Levi Gunardi, and Professor Ulrich Prinz (Germany).

During her time at Conservatory of Music, Pelita Harapan, she was actively participated in various master classes by local and International well known pianists.

Her passion in music learning made her continuing her journey to gain Master of Music studies and piano performance at Australian Catholic University under the tutelage of Australian well known pianist and organist, Anthony Halliday and musicologist, Dr Ian Burk.

During her summer and winter breaks, she was actively participated in master classes, conducted by Australian piano pedagogues and artists. She was also intensively performed in various University’s events and recitals giving solo, accompanist and chamber performances. Her highly performances awarded her with “student’s of the month” and high distinction.

Aside of her passion in performing activities, she dedicated herself into music education. Currently, she is a lead piano teacher and teachers’ trainer at Cristofori Music School, Singapore.
