Jazz Dance | Premiere, Debut to Grade 8
Jazz dance exams that build strong lines and real stage presence in Singapore
Stageschool Jazz Dance takes candidates from Premiere to Grade 8 on a graded journey through classic and contemporary jazz technique. Each level combines focused technical work, clean lines and dynamic choreography so candidates develop strength, flexibility, musicality and performance presence, not just a single routine for exam day.
Early grades help candidates become independent in basic jazz vocabulary and timing. Mid grades create confident performers who can pick up choreography quickly and project to an audience. Higher grades lay a foundation for musical theatre, commercial work, teaching pathways and further study, giving candidates the technique and polish needed for today’s stages.
Why Stageschool Jazz Dance
Classic jazz lines, ready for modern stages
The syllabus builds established jazz technique—placement, isolations, kicks, leaps, turns and travelling combinations, progressively from Premiere to Grade 8. Candidates train the clean lines, strength and control expected in jazz while staying adaptable for musical theatre, competition and commercial opportunities.
Dance your studio’s choreography and still gain a serious exam
Within clear technical requirements, teachers choreograph their own exercises and performance pieces. Candidates are examined in work that feels like their regular class and show choreography, often to music they already know, while still following a structured jazz dance syllabus with defined progression.
Exams that reward performance, not just steps
Each grade balances Technical Skills with a choreographed Performance, and introduces improvisation from the higher levels. Candidates are marked on musicality, projection and connection with the audience as well as accuracy, so the exam feels like a real jazz performance, not a theory-style test.
Qualifications that support auditions, DSA and future training
Jazz Dance sits within RSL Awards’ regulated graded framework, with higher grades carrying UCAS tariff points. For candidates in Singapore, Stageschool Jazz results can strengthen school portfolios, DSA and arts-programme applications, auditions and entry to further training, clear evidence that their jazz work is structured, progressive and internationally recognised.
How Jazz Dance exams are structured
Jazz Dance is assessed as group graded exams from Premiere to Grade 8. Each exam includes set technical content, a choreographed group performance and, at higher levels, a short improvisation section. Full formats, grade content and assessment criteria are available under Exam Overview and in the syllabus specification.
