Fun, structured ukulele grades for modern players in Singapore
The Rockschool Ukulele syllabus takes candidates from Premiere to Grade 8 on a contemporary pathway built around real ukulele playing. Candidates strum chords, pick riffs and play melodies in pop, rock, acoustic, folk and latin-influenced styles, preparing for recognised ukulele exams in Singapore rather than just casual play.
Each grade combines songs, technical work and supporting tests so candidates build solid time, accurate pitch and confident rhythm more than just a few easy shapes. Exams support notation and TAB, with backing tracks and solo options so candidates can perform as rhythm support, lead line or chord, melody feature in lessons, school CCAs and ensembles.
Why Rockschool Ukulele
A proper syllabus, written for ukulele
Rockschool Ukulele is designed for the instrument itself, re-entrant tuning, campanella-style patterns and chord–melody textures, not just simplified guitar material. Candidates play parts that feel natural on ukulele and sound convincing on stage in solos, duos and ensembles.
Songs that make practice feel like play
Each grade book offers chord grooves, hooks, melodic lines and full songs with professionally produced audio. Candidates can strum and sing, take simple leads or play chord–melody arrangements, so practice feels like playing real music, not running exercises.
Musicianship that goes beyond “easy starter”
Technical work covers scales, arpeggios and chord shapes, while supporting tests develop ear skills, reading and creativity through Sight Reading or Improvisation & Interpretation. Candidates learn to accompany, take solos and adapt songs they enjoy. Ukulele becomes a genuine songwriting and performance tool, and a strong bridge to guitar and bass.
Recognised progression for contemporary ukulele players
Rockschool Ukulele forms part of RSL Awards’ regulated graded music exam system, offering internationally recognised ukulele grades from Premiere to Grade 8. Higher levels can support school portfolios, Singapore DSA and arts-programme applications, scholarship auditions and entry to modern music and performance courses, showing that ukulele study is serious musical achievement as well as fun.
How Rockschool Ukulele exams are structured
Rockschool Ukulele graded exams from Premiere to Grade 8 follow RSL’s standard structure of performance pieces, technical work and supporting tests. For full formats and options, please see Exam Overview and the syllabus specification.
