Street & Commercial Dance | Grade 1 to Grade 8

Turn your Hip Hop, K-pop & crew routines into recognised exams in Singapore

Stageschool Street & Commercial Dance gives candidates a way to keep dancing the styles they love—Hip Hop, K-pop, urban and commercial, while following a clear, internationally recognised graded pathway. Created with industry icon Solange Urdang OBE and leading street dance professionals, the syllabus connects authentic street foundations with the kind of choreography seen on stages, in music videos and online.

From Grade 1 to Grade 8, candidates build technique, musicality and performance skills through Hip Hop drills, a chosen style (locking, popping, house or breaking) and teacher-choreographed routines. Early grades build groove and confidence; mid grades grow freestyle, teamwork and performance quality; higher grades support pre-professional training and portfolios for DSA, auditions and further study.

Why Stageschool Street & Commercial Dance

Built on real street styles, not just “street jazz”

The syllabus is shaped by street and commercial specialists, so training feels authentic. Candidates work on structured Hip Hop foundations plus one specialist style, giving them solid technique for crews, battles, stages and screens.

Train in the style you already love

Stageschool defines the technical skills and progression, while the performance choreography is created by the teacher. Candidates prepare grade work using their studio’s own K-pop, urban or crew-style routines, often to tracks they already know, so exams stay close to regular class and showcase work.

Exams that feel like class, not a written test

Each grade blends technical drills, a short assessed freestyle section (from Grade 4) and a group performance piece. Candidates move between drills, improvisation and choreography the way they already do in rehearsals and showcases, so the exam feels like a real street & commercial performance.

Certificates that show street & commercial dance is serious training

Street & Commercial Dance grades sit within RSL Awards’ regulated framework, with higher levels carrying UCAS tariff points. For candidates in Singapore, Hip Hop, K-pop and commercial classes can support school portfolios, DSA and arts-programme applications, auditions and overseas training, clear proof that their dance pathway is structured, progressive and recognised.

How Street & Commercial Dance exams are structured

Street & Commercial Dance is assessed as group graded exams (Grades 1–8). Each exam includes set technical drills, a short freestyle section at higher grades and a teacher-choreographed performance piece. Full formats and grade details are available under Exam Overview and in the syllabus specification.
